Job Summary Information. ¿ Function:¿ Engineering. Sub-Function:¿ Technical Documentation. Job Purpose: Experienced technical writing position. Job Level Summary Information. Scope:¿ Information Developer is a technical documentation position with growing experience. ¿Routine functions are accomplished without guidance and more complex functions are accomplished with general guidance. Information Developer develops simple standalone documents, or portions of more complex documents. ¿The Information Developer interacts with engineering staff and understands the operation of Tyco's fire and security products to create effective documentation. ¿¿ Impact: ¿Routine creation of technical documentation or sections of technical documentation including installation instructions, operators manuals, or service manuals. Knowledge:¿ Strong writing skills and highly proficient command of the English language. Understanding of document control and revision. Understanding of good documentation practice and effective document structure. Problem Solving:¿ Can work through routine issues. ¿Knows when to escalate and get help. People/Function Management:¿ N/A. Supervision Received:¿ Supervision by more senior technical documentation staff and technical publications management. Customer Focus:¿ Must be able to understand specifications and engineering documentation/illustration and transform those into easily useable instructions. Ability to interact with engineers to understand how products work and transform that knowledge into publications. Interpersonal Skills:¿ Ability to interact with senior staff as well as engineers from around the world. Adapts readily to changing work demands; maintains composure under pressure. Mentors junior information developers. Works effectively with others. Shares information. Demonstrates integrity. Honors commitments. Travel Requirements:¿ None. Essential Job Responsibilities Create and modify technical documentation and illustrations. With general direction create simple publications or modify existing publications. Understand the operation of security and fire products and document their operation. Able to format and lay out standard documents. Work with a variety of media, including written documentation, web pages, help files, and digital media. ¿¿#external. Preferred Education: ¿Four year degree in a writing discipline (Technical Documentation, Journalism, English, etc. Or a technical degree with writing experience. ¿ Minimum Preference Experience:¿ Minimum of 2 years experience as a technical writer. ¿0-2 years with an advanced degree. ¿ Additional Qualification Technical Writing: ¿Ability to understand the operation of fire and security products and transform that understanding into readable technical documentation. Documentation software: ¿Understands how to use documentation software (minimally Microsoft Word, ideally more sophisticated packages, including DITA, Arbortext, Framemaker, MadCap flare, etc.) to create well formatted documentation. Document management:¿ Good understanding of document and revision control. Technical Illustration:¿ Ability to create readable technical illustrations under the direction of senior staff using Corel Draw, Adobe Photoshop and Visio (or equivalents.
