Financial Accountant (Cork. Our client is is leading research organisation based in Cork. An opportunity has arisen for an experienced accountant to take on the role of Assistant Financial Accountant for a period of 6 months. This is an urgent requirement. The successful candidate will provide high quality financial accounting support to the finance operation reporting directory to the Financial Controller. They will be a highly motivated individual, proficient in excel, and with a general knowledge of financial principles, legislation etc. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Preparation of detailed Monthly management and quarterly board reports within strict reporting deadlines using financial systems and non-financial reports. Manage, monitor and maintain the comprehensive spreadsheet-based salary forecasting model which requires extensive input, and on-going updates, from existing Finance and HR systems. Proactively manage all aspects of pending project closures including salary reallocation and lab manager notifications. Manage, monitor and maintain comprehensive costing spreadsheets in conjunction with laboratory managers. Manage and control the on-line procurement system and approve purchase orders. Manage the asset management system, ensuring that all assets are identified, recorded and tagged. Undertake monthly physical audits. Manage all monthly journals and the journal interface file to enable journals to be processed and reflected within accounting system. Preparation of financial reporting KPI’s. Salary/ timesheet reconciliation and review with timesheet administrator. On-going reports and budget meetings with key Industry unit managers. Review and approval of expense claims, advance requests including expense queries from both internal and external sources. Quarterly preparation and submission of core grant claim to management within strict deadlines. Large scale industry contracts financial review at end of project life. Creation of ad-hoc reports as required. Provide quarterly presentation and training of financial systems and processes. Complete and report on quarterly internal audit of precious metals. Ensure all new awards are accurately recorded within financial database and reports. Manage queries from accounts assistants as required. KEY REQUIREMENTS. 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role. Ideally a professional accountancy qualification. An excellent aptitude for finances, proficient in excel and capable of quickly adopting to new systems. A good communicator, flexible in approach to work. Capable of working within a team environment and to tight deadlines. Able to work largely on own initiative. Will have the potential to develop and broaden the role.
