Job Summary Information Function: Engineering. Sub-Function: Technical Documentation. Job Purpose: Career technical writing position. Job Level Summary Information ¿ Scope: Senior Information Developer is an experienced technical documentation position.¿ The Senior Information Developer can develop complex documents independently and create document strategies. The Senior Information Developer will work with engineers to obtain source material, and supervises other Information Developers in the creation of full documentation packages for new products.¿ ¿ Impact : Able to create technical documentation ranging from routine to complex.¿ Able to develop document strategies and serve as the Technical Communications representative on project teams for product development. ¿ Knowledge: Excellent writing skills and proficient command of the English language. Excellent understanding of document control and revision.¿ Excellent understanding of good writing and documentation practice and effective document structure. ¿ Problem Solving: Can work through complex issues, engaging engineering staff as necessary.¿ Knows when to escalate and get help. ¿ Supervision Received: Supervision by Information Development management and Program Manager. ¿ Customer Focus: Must be able to work with engineering on obtaining source material (specifications, illustrations, and technical documentation), understand the material and transform it into easily useable instructions.¿ Ability to interact with engineers to understand how products work and provide guidance to lower level technical communications staff. ¿ Interpersonal Skills: Excellent ability to interact with engineers from around the world.¿ Ability to provide guidance to junior technical communications staff.¿ Adapts readily to changing work demands; maintains composure under pressure. Works effectively with others. Shares information. Demonstrates integrity. Honors commitments. Major Responsibilities. Collaborate with software developers, testers and project stakeholders to deliver content for end users in the form of installation, integration, user guides, help files and API documentation. Provide guidance and instruction to junior information developers and help them with obtaining and understanding source material and content structure. Ability to quickly understand the operation of security and fire products and document their operation. Expert with a variety of media, pdf, web pages, help files, and digital media. Acts as an expert information developer and information architect. ¿ #external. Preferred Education: Four year degree in a writing discipline (Technical Communication, Journalism, English, etc. ¿ Minimum Preference Experience: ¿Minimum of 4 years' experience as a technical writer. Ideally with some leadership responsibility. Additional Qualification Technical Writing - Ability to obtain source material and use that to understand the operation complex software products and transform that understanding into readable technical documentation. Documentation software - ¿Experience in XML authoring, and DITA. For example: Oxygen, Arbortext, FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, etc. Experience with Markdown, and publishing to static servers such as Swagger and Slate an advantage. Document management - Excellent understanding of document and revision control, grammar and style. A working knowledge of agile and waterfall project methodologies.¿ Document architecture - Experience in information architecture and information modelling. Ability to implement lean document practices. Advanced media - Excellent understanding of the variety of media platforms available for delivering technical information. Technical Illustration - Ability to create readable technical illustrations with minimal supervision using Corel Draw, Adobe Photoshop and Visio (or equivalents. Publication - Advanced understanding of publication technologies and methodologies.
