Senior Modelling Analyst / Data Scientist. Specific Purpose Contract (Maternity Leave Contract. Location : Cork. Reporting to : Modelling Lead. We are the helpful energy company. Role Purpose. The Senior Modelling Analyst / Data Scientist is responsible for the development and enhancement of quantitative models, methodologies, analysis techniques, and software tools to support business areas in Assets & Trading and across BGE in particular to support the new I-SEM market. Key Accountabilities. 1. Develop and deliver models, methodologies or analysis across several functional areas from among: • Forecasting of customer demand for power and gas. • Forecasting of power prices using fundamental market modelling. • Optimisation of generation dispatch and generation asset valuation. • Support for originating and structuring wholesale contracts including gas and PPAs (e.g. thermal, wind. • Modelling and analysis to support readiness for the I-SEM market. • Support for tool building and business process improvement. • Market and competitor analytical support to BGE trading and commercial decisions. 2. Analyse complex data using statistical techniques to facilitate modelling team activities. 3. Support the trading of BGE’s portfolio by ensuring that the short-term modelling process (data input/outputs, processing and performance) is streamlined and meets trading requirements. 4. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market and regulatory developments, especially with respect to the design of the I-SEM market and its implementation. 5. Maintain adequate documentation for all models and methodologies and ensure adequate controls are in place. 6. Perform any other duties that may arise. Knowledge, Skills & Experience. • A degree in a quantitative or scientific field such as mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering or computer science. • Proficient at using programming/coding languages such as Python, Matlab, SQL etc. • Knowledge of power markets, and especially of the regulation and operation of the new I-SEM power market. • Excellent analytical skills and knowledge of numerical and statistical techniques and experience of applying these techniques to practical real-world problems. • Capability with Plexos market scheduling model.
