Power Operations Analyst * 2. Specific Purpose Contract. Assets & Trading - Cork based. Reporting to: Power Trading Manager. We are the helpful energy company. Role Purpose. The Power Operations Analyst operates in the short-term physical power market in Ireland to manage the supply of BGE’s customers and the sale of power from Whitegate on a real-time basis. The postholder manages risk and creates value for BGE by executing physical power trading in the day-ahead and intraday markets, and managing BGE’s position in the balancing market. The postholder works as part of a roster system, including nights and weekends, to ensure continuous coverage of the short-term power market 24 hours per day, every day of the year. Key Accountabilities. 1. Understand the daily strategy for the optimisation of BGE’s behaviour in the short-term physical power market as developed by the Power Trading Desk. 2. Provide regular market based feedback, observation and challenge to Power Desk. 3. Periodically refresh forecasts of customer power demand and the results of the Fundamental Power model to support better short-term trading decisions. 4. Prepare and execute bids for BGE’s power position into the day-ahead and intra-day auctions, and act in the continuous intra-day market to optimise and balance BGE’s short term position, according to the strategy provided by the Power Desk. 5. Manage and rebalance BGE’s traded power position and into Gate Closure and submit Physical Nominations for all power positions to the TSO before Gate Closure each 30 minutes. 6. Prepare and submit Commercial Offer Data into the Balancing Market. 7. Monitor the likelihood of the power reference price exceeding the strike price of BGE’s Reliability Options and ensure Whitegate is scheduled at times this probability is high. 8. Monitor BGE’s collateral requirements against agreed credit limits on the I-SEM trading platforms. 9. Outside of regular business hours, react appropriately to unexpected market events, by adapting BGE’s bids and offers in the short-term and balancing markets within agreed procedures to minimise risk and capture opportunities. 10. Ensure that all transactions are captured into the appropriate systems. 11. Prepare basic flash reporting on the performance of the BGE portfolio in the short-term power market. 12. Ensure correct process documentation is in place and regularly updated. 13. Train new Operations Analysts to perform the above tasks when necessary. 14. Perform any other duties that may arise. Knowledge, Skills & Experience. • Previous experience in an energy scheduling or shift trader role, in any market. • Previous experience in energy or commodities, e.g. in trading, settlement, risk management, etc. • Proficiency in Excel spreadsheets, macros, and VBA. • High level of numeracy. • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to spot and act on potential opportunities in the market. • Sound judgement with the ability to integrate large volumes of information and make timely decisions. • Disciplined and well-organised, with an ability to work under pressure, multi-task, and prioritise workloads appropriately. • High level of integrity and professionalism.
