Job description. Position. Secondary Handling Shift Manager. Purpose of job. The purpose of this job is to maximise the output of the secondary handling processes while ensuring employee safety, product compliance and product quality are maintained. Key tasks. Health and Safety. Ensure all direct and indirect reports are trained on the risks presented to them in the performance of their duties and that training is documented. Ensure safe work practices implemented to address above risks. Ensure compliance of all employees with safety requirements, instructions and best work practices. Training. Ensure all direct and indirect reports are trained for the tasks assigned to them. Ensure training content is documented in operator friendly format and that training records are maintained. Ensure operators demonstrate competency in the duties for which they are trained and record demonstrations of competency. Manage production schedule in consultation with sales, scheduler and production technicians to deliver agreed targets. Minimise secondary handling yield loss. Manage material picking from yard and infeed through LHG, bypass and under dropsorter bins to adhere to schedule. Ensure output as measured in bales, pieces and/or m3 meets sales requirements in a timely manner. Ensure adherence to appropriate standards (EN14081) and accurate labelling of products and record keeping of test results. Document and implement operator cleaning, lubrication, maintenance and calibration schedules to maximise production uptime. Document and implement operator fault finding, troubleshooting and error recovery guides to maximise production uptime. Process improvements. Monitor, analyse and report line downtime. Identify opportunities for process improvement projects to improve safety, quality production output and yield performance. Liaise with other departments to assign individuals or teams to execute process improvement projects. Ensure necessary documentation (for example risk assessments, training documentation, standard operation procedures) for process improvement are completed and operators trained accordingly. Personnel. Ensure direct and indirect reports are aware of and held accountable for their own safety and the safety of others. Document expected performance and/or targets and quality standards for each operator position. Review operator performance and assist operators to achieve required performance levels. Monitor and manage time keeping and attendance. Assist with recruitment, induction and initial training. Other. Other tasks will be assigned to the Secondary Handling Shift Manager from time to time as required by the company and to support the development of the Production Manager. Education & training. Suitable technical education and qualifications to operate and analyse the Company’s production equipment. Training in lean manufacturing desirable. Training in people management, performance management, employment law and similar desirable. Training in management of safety desirable. Experience. 5 to 10 years manufacturing experience including recent roles as a production manager in a labour intensive environment. Successfully managed in a systems driven environment and can demonstrate achievement of safety, quality, production and yield targets. Experience of mid size and large scale ERP systems in a company with multiple products and delivery formats.
