SENIOR MANAGER - SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS ENGINEERING required by CareerWise Recruitment for our Cork based global technology client. The SENIOR MANAGER - SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS ENGINEERING will be operationally responsible for 20-30 software development engineers with approximately 2 to 3 first line managers. THE ROLE: * Provide leadership and managerial direction for software engineering activities to ensure business objectives are achieved. * Establish and participate in organisation design, roles and responsibilities definition. * Participate in and is accountable for cross functional initiatives and collaboration, which may have significant impact on business results. * Responsible for developing work plans, establishing technical objectives and delegation as necessary. * Guides software engineering project management, planning and project execution to ensure that projects are completed on-time, within budget, and as per the set goals. * Key influencer on the establishment of product backlog definition, organisation, use case identification & prioritization with Product Management and planning authority to execute for tactical and strategic outcome aligned to business ambitions. * Accountable for the completion of tasks within time and R&D organisation constraints and ensures that technical and functional objectives are met. * Identifies and recommends changes to established practices and policies of an agile scrum based organisation and methodology of software execution. * Regularly interacts with R&D stakeholders, peer managers, and employees within across functional teams. * Requires in-depth technical and operational knowledge within area of responsibility. Often plays a proactive technical role in developing and applying new approaches to engineering architecture, design and development. Is capable of "going deep" technically to make final design decisions, solve problems that ICs are unable to solve on their own and remove implementation roadblocks. * Authorizes the resources necessary to achieve organizational goals. * Creates career development programs for the team and develops tactical plans to ensure skills and performance of employees meet current and future needs. REQUIREMENTS: * 5-7 years successfully leading enterprise level software engineering and teams in the areas of software and/or cloud services. * Experience in establishing and managing large, multi-department teams including leading managers. * Experience and demonstrated success in complex matrix organization structures. * Preferred experience in managing large [multi-million] budgets - developing and gaining approval for the budgets and managing actuals to targets. * Experience participating and leading cross functional global projects. * Experience in the Product Development life cycle development processes and tools. * Experience operating in the Agile Development Methodology is very desirable; willingness to operate in Agile is essential.
